cost-lens is a Chrome extension that shows estimated list-price costs beside resources in the AWS Management Console. This policy describes what it does with information. In short: it uses the page's content only inside your browser; nothing is stored and nothing leaves your browser.
What the extension reads
The extension runs only on AWS Management Console pages (https://console.aws.amazon.com/* and https://*.console.aws.amazon.com/*). On those pages it reads:
- the page address, to tell which console page and AWS Region you are on;
- every cell of each resource table it recognises on the pages it supports, including resource names and IDs: the priced columns (for example instance type, size or state) to work out which price applies to each row, and the names and IDs to keep each badge on its row and to title its tooltip;
- whether the console is in light or dark mode, so the badges match it.
It reads this information in your browser, only to show the cost badges and tooltips on the page you are looking at. It does not read cookies, session tokens, credentials, form inputs or the console's own scripts, and it does not call AWS APIs or read billing data.
Where the prices come from
All prices are bundled inside the extension as files built from the public AWS Price List. The extension loads those files from its own package. It makes no other network requests.
What the extension does with what it reads, stores and shares
- Uses: the page's content only inside your browser, to show the badges; nothing is stored and nothing leaves your browser. No personal information, account information, resource details, browsing history or usage statistics are sent anywhere.
- Stores: nothing. The extension uses no extension storage, no local storage, no cookies and no databases. What it reads from a page is held in memory only while that page is open.
- Transmits or shares: nothing. There is no server, no analytics, no telemetry, no advertising and no third-party code. Nothing is sold or transferred to anyone.
Each tooltip contains a link to the public AWS pricing page for that service. Opening it is an ordinary link you choose to click; the extension adds nothing to it.
Permissions
The extension requests no browser permissions and no host permissions, and it has no background process. Chrome runs its one content script on AWS console pages because the extension declares those pages as where it runs; that lets it read the console page, including its same-origin frames, and add its badges to it; it grants nothing on any other site.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at the same address with a new effective date. A change that would collect or transmit any data would be stated here before the extension does so.
